Measurement Day April 13, 2012

Ok Ladies so I'm frustrated, but like I said before the scale isn't really your friend.  I've upped my workouts and protein intake.  I'm ecstatic about my measurements but there was an increase in weight from yesterday to today.  I really have to stop weighing myself daily!  In fact I might do away with the scale all together.

I know I'm not the only one who is disappointed when they've been eating healthy, exercising regularly and even feel there jeans fitting looser, and you're almost STOKED to step on that scale to see your progress and then it reads one pound heavier than your last weigh in!  GRRRRRRR

     So let's get to it.

Thursday April 12, 2012 I weighed 160 lbs, the next day, my actual weigh in day, I weighed 162.4
Aggravated I started doing my measurements, and to my surprise they ROCKED!

                     Starting                                      April 13, 2012
Waist            30.5"                                                28.5"

Hips              38.5"                                                36.5"

Thighs       R 26"  L 25.5"                            R 25.25"   L 25"

Chest             38"                                                 35.25"

Arms         R 12" L 12"                                 R 11.75"  L 11.5"

Butt/
Thighs         43.5"                                                   41"
together

That's quite an accomplishment in a little over a week, that's like 10" lost! (Because I did these measurements a few days before I started the shakes).   I'm not going to give the shakes ALL the credit, because I workout too.  But they had to of helped a lot!  I haven't seen results like these by just hitting the gym!

For a gift to myself I went to my favorite consignment shop to shop for some jeans. (once I hit my goal, I'm going to splurge on a BRAND NEW pair of BKE's!)  But shopping consignment is a cheap awesome way to reward yourself while you reach small goals on your journey!  I a cute pair of Bermuda Jean Shorts from Calvin Klein for $9 AND they are in a SIZE 10!  I've been a twelve for as long as I can remember, even when I was a couple pounds lighter than I am right now.

In the end, you shouldn't go by how much you weigh, you should go by how your clothes feel and how you feel overall.  Weigh yourself weekly while on this journey but Don't be discouraged if you don't always see a huge difference.  If your jeans feel looser, you are doing something right!

     Talk to you all soon!

My Favorite Leg Workout

Had a great workout today, until I felt like I pulled something.  Every time I hurt myself I try and push through the pain and then it's a week before I'm in the gym again.  So today as soon as I felt that twinge of pain I stopped and stretched, but usually I would do the entire thing, I only made it to the squats before I felt an intense burning and pain in my groin area.

Usually I start off doing cardio and I listen to upbeat techno music while I'm on the Elliptical, I usually keep my Strides Per Minute between 160 and 180.  I finally hit a mile in under 10 minutes on this damn machine today and I do the interval workout.  Usually it is at a zero resistance with a 4 incline for 2 minutes and then jumps up to a 8 resistance at a 10 incline for 4 minutes.  I did this for 10 minutes for a warm up/cardio.

Then I go to the lovely "Ladies World" in my gym because I enjoy working out and I don't enjoy listening to muscle heads grunt and moan throughout the gym.  Ladies World is usually empty during the time I workout so I can do my HIIT workouts without waiting in between sets for a certain piece of equipment.

I start with the lovely Lunges and do 3 sets of 12 with 8 lb dumbbells in each hand,

I then do Dead Lifts 3 sets of 12 holding 20lbs,

Calf Raises are next, 3 sets of 15 with no weight.

Pinned Image

Squats, 3 sets of 12 holding 15 lbs out in front of you

Pinned Image

Then 2 sets of 12 short bridges holding a 15lb weight on my stomach/pelvic area.

Then I walk on the treadmill with the incline set as high as it will go at 4.5 MPH for at least 10 min (this just helps condition me for hiking this summer, But it's a great cool down)

Then I stretch the hell out of my legs so I'm not as sore the next day.  The best thing about this workout is, you don't need a gym to do it.  Run a mile, do the workouts, and then walk another mile.

The best little snack ever!

evol Burritos!!!! MMMMHHHHMMM
We all like those frozen burritos that are horrible nutritious wise, I just found these on my grocery trip and they are little snack burritos that are all natural with 9G of protein, 2G of fiber and they are delicious.  Only 180 calories!

Before and After

A Week Later

So, I've now found out with this Body By Vi that if you do hard workouts with the shake you definitely need more calories in your day.  I'm perfectly content with two shakes a day if BOTH shakes are blended with some frozen fruit.  But if I have a shake that is just Almond milk and the Vi shake for lunch I am ravenous by dinner time and then sometimes make thoughtless decisions that make me feel yuck an hour later!

When purchasing the Body By Vi system I've learned that you also get an appetite suppressant and a metabolism boosting pill.  Which is great, I just decided to do only the shakes.  So I am only doing one of the three things the Body By Vi system, and I am still seeing results.  My results aren't going to show on the scale because I am building lean muscle by working out 3-4 times a week and incorporating a lot of HIIT workouts.  As everyone hears but doesn't like to accept is that muscle weighs more than fat!   This is my greatest wall I need to overcome. My results are showing through my measurements though and any tangible results are GREAT!  (Which I will post tomorrow because Friday is my measurement and weigh in day!)  It's true that losing weight will make you look and feel great, especially in your clothing, but when you incorporate weight training and cardio, you are most DEFINITELY looking good naked!  Bikini.....anyone?

So if you are personally looking to try the Body By Vi challenge AND you want to workout and see how STRONG is the NEW SEXY....then I suggest that you add some high protein and good fats to your diet.  Because if you don't those Damn Milky Way Easter Bunny's sitting in your kids basket will call out your name in the most seductive way EVER!  After you indulge in one or five, you're going to feel used by that bunny's damn seductive voice!

I've been eating the hard boiled eggs we dyed for Easter, turkey rolled up with slices of avocado inside, Greek yogurt, Luna Bars and tons of apples, oranges, bananas, and fresh cut veggies.  These are great snacks or something to add to that mid day shake when you aren't near a blender and frozen bananas.

My Favorite Luna Bar!!!!  Find them in your grocer's protein bar isle.

Avocado and Turkey on whole wheat bread with a little bit of Feta cheese!! MMMMM

Easter Weekend....

Oh Boy, the Easter Bunny is no one's friend when you are trying to maintain a healthy eating style!  Yes ladies, I did partake in some Milky Way Easter Bunny's!

So I've ran into one main concern with Body by Vi, I'm always on the go and I don't always know if I will be able to make it home in the middle of the day for a shake, so then I choose less healthy options (NEVER fast food though! not unless it's Subway, STAY AWAY FROM FAST FOOD!!!)

I'm not sure if I should just keep a few scoops worth of the shake in my purse and then grab something to mix it with at a convenient store....but most gas stations do not sell soy milk either.

( I have something similar to this that I plan on keeping a portion of the shake mix in and with me at all times, the ball really helps integrate the shake mix with the solvent)

Easter Sunday we decided to go fishing all day at Eleven Mile here in Colorado.  I had a shake and some coffee for breakfast and was fine until the middle morning when I realized that I didn't have another shake for lunch.  I caved into a ham sandwich with a handful of Honey Mustard Pringles and ate a couple pieces of candy AND had a beer (My boys aren't the best role models :P )  I didn't drink enough water either yesterday :(

For dinner I made a ham in the crock pot, with twice baked mashed potatoes and some asparagus and I had a couple more beers.

So the weekends are hard and holidays are even harder, but the key here is to not give up!  One bad weekend does not make you a horrible eater and doesn't mean you should throw in the towel and say To Hell With It!  Use these slips to learn how to better approach your next weakness.  Next weekend I will make sure to have a shake with me and I will scope out some of the convenient stores to see which ones sell the Soy Milk that will work for me.  I will also make sure I bring some bagged fresh fruits and veggies and some healthy tuna salad with me next time and not let someone else be in charge of packing the lunch!

As for Holiday dinners, Indulge, but only one trip through the dinner line and have a bite or two of dessert.  I need to quit the beer, and OH how hard that will be with summer approaching (I'm sure there are better choices for beer to take to the lake this summer and still be able to look stellar in a two piece).

I'm going to write a blurp on here about portion control and how to know without weighing and busting out a ruler to see what is 3in.

This is all a learning process for me, all trial and error, but I only want to promote something I know everything about.  This shake is awesome but it is not the SOLE ingredient to a sexy body!  Working out and living a healthy lifestyle is how to meet your goals.  Look at it as if the company that sells your absolute favorite weight management tool, whether it be a certain shake, or snack, or fitness water, went bankrupt and left you dangling in a world full of Milky Way Easter Bunny's!!!!!  How will you let something like that affect you?  Could you maintain without it?  If you adopt a healthy, active lifestyle then YES, you can bounce back from any minor set back!

As I start a new week I promised myself to make better choices if met with an obstacle!  I was very active last week and I plan to bump that up a notch!  Off to the gym I go!

Just Think About IT!

Pinned Image

Persistence is key, and you have to realize that you can't cut through the rock overnight!!

NO MATTER WHAT!!!! Get up and do something....run around with you kids and play tag, vacuum the HELL outta your house, do calf raises while doing your hair, walk around the block.  I promise you WILL NEVER REGRET A WORKOUT!

Update!

The past two days went good, kept to the shakes twice a day and had sensible dinners, I did indulge in a homemade burger last night and a glass of white wine, but Fridays are my cheat days and I had three tests and a paper due yesterday :) It's ok to indulge every once in a while.  If you don't let yourself enjoy something you crave then you will end up falling off the wagon.....and.....If you are tired of starting over.....STOP GIVING UP!

(Here are some numbers to think about, remember after this experiment, I will be promoting for Vi-Shape.)

I have my weekly weigh ins on Fridays as well, but since I didn't start the shakes until the middle of the week I'm not counting this weeks loss in this experiment.  I also saw a difference in my measurements but I'm going to say this is because of my workouts the last week too.  But next Friday I will definitely update my stats.

Experiment #1 Day 1

A healthy lifestyle is something almost everyone dreams of, but not everyone feels they can obtain.  The difference between who you are and what you want to be is what you DO!  As a former overweight woman, I know how hard it is to take the first step towards a healthy lifestyle.  It feels like the goal will take forever...if ever to accomplish.  I am here to tell you that it is definitely a journey and if you can learn to appreciate it and not just focus on your destination, that you WILL and CAN obtain a healthy lifestyle.

I have been asked to promote a new protein shake called Visalus Sciences Vi-Shape.  I'm not one to promote something I have never used.  Over the next two weeks I will be reviewing this new shake.  Combined with the shake plan I will also be continuing my workouts and healthy eating plan.  If I feel like the shake makes a difference I will be hosting a Vi-Shape informational meeting and trying to pull together a local group of girls to workout weekly as a group to help with motivation to continue a healthy lifestyle solo.

4/4/2012

I've had my first shake this morning.  I first enjoyed a cup of coffee when I woke up and then made my shake.

7am-- I blended two scoops of the Vi-Shape Sweet Cream Flavor with 1 1/2 cups of Almond Milk, 1 frozen banana (I first peel and then freeze the bananas in a freezer bag, trying to peel a frozen banana IS NOT FUN!) and 4 frozen strawberries.  The shake was thick like a milkshake, with no nasty protein taste.  I enjoyed it and it took me quite a while to drink and I am very satisfied.

I plan to workout today and enjoy another shake for lunch.

3pm- Checking back in, I've eaten an apple as a snack while sitting in class today and I just finished my second shake for lunch.  I prepared it the same way as I did for breakfast, and it's still just as good.  I'm pleasantly full but not too full.  Now I will complete a workout and then tonight eat a sensible yet enjoyable dinner.  So far, so good on day 1!

I power walked Skyline drive tonight with a friend, it was very enjoyable, it's so nice that as we looked down on the town it was budding green all over :)

Ate a bowl of Elk Chile tonight and had one low carb tortilla.  Drank a ton of water and cleaned my house like a maniac.  About an hour before bed I ate one slice of turkey to maintain protein through the night.

Overall the first day went GREAT!  I was full most all day and didn't have the desire to snack at all.  I'm feeling like maybe this thing might actually work :)  Check Back for tomorrow's entry.
